Xiaomi set to revolutionize era of Segway with ninebot mini

Within a few years Xiaomi is riding high on the success of its smartphones, the name will be now seen on my many electronics as company is planning to expand to other products.

The first collaboration with Ninebot and Segway, a self-balancing scooter called Ninebot Mini has been announced for around $300. The product will be coming to China and Europe. Resultant is Xiaomi’s investment in Ninebot and Ninebot’s subsequent acquisition of Segway.

Built from magnesium alloy that Xiaomi says is aerospace-grade, it can hit speeds of up to 16 Km/hour and can go 22 Km on a single charge. It is able to handle a 15-degree uphill incline and weighs less than 13 Kg. It can be controlled by smartphone app.

LED light shows the battery life of the Ninebot mini, and illuminates the path ahead. Users are able to check traffic, install firmware, and monitor speed through a smartphone app, developed by Ninebot.

Xiaomi claims it only takes 3 minutes to learn how to ride the device. the Ninebot mini will cost just 1,999 yuan (roughly $315, AU$435 or £205) when it goes on sale on November 3 in China.
